About Me

I am a teacher and outdoor/experiential educator in the Bay Area, CA and have implemented the CSP curriculum in my classrooms on the East Coast in Maryland and Washington DC.  I have taught a variety of different subjects and concentrations to students at elementary, middle and high school levels.  Additionally, my work has included teaching mindfulness education, life skills and directing after school and extended day programs.

On multiple levels, I work to engage my students, helping them to grow as active and productive members of their class and school communities.  Teaching through superheroes surfaced as a successful way for my students to learn about major life themes, connect with their community, embrace their roles as individuals and citizens and implement their knowledge through service learning and group-building activities.  I believe that the superhero model provides students with a very tangible vehicle- one that many educators continue to look for throughout their careers- through which they can easily relate to the basic concepts of “good vs. evil,” “helping others,” “use and abuse of power” and “the greater good.” 

I am also a co-founder of and environmental conservation effort, called ConserFest, which organizes music and art events to raise funds and awareness about environmental conservation on islands.  The teachings of the Citizen Superhero Project have come directly into play in our efforts with ConserFest (since our inception in 2007) as we work to educate about environmental consciousness and inspire civic leadership and stewardship.

The curriculum, teachings and materials that I have created for the Citizen Superhero Project are intended for children as well as grown children (adults) and teachers as well as parents.  The way of the Citizen Superhero is for all of us to embrace.  It is an amazing vehicle for self-awareness, personal empowerment, mindfulness, team-building and cultivating peace.  Citizen Superhero applies to individual as well as community positive growth.  The curriculum and ideals of the CSP are now becoming a feature of a much broader project now in development, called Teacher Travis.  Please learn more at teachertravis.com.
